[Completed] SDGs Integration in the Parliament

Advancing deeper national SDGs integration in the Parliament of Uzbekistan

This is a project on deeper national integration of sustainable development goals in the Parliament of Uzbekistan to ensure reliable protection of the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of citizens.

Project Summary:

The Project aims to support:

1) the Parliament whose institutional capacity, structures and work processes are fit for the purpose of ensuring the effectiveness, accountability and equitability of government’s sustainable development reforms;

2) more effective parliamentary oversight of the implementation of the reforms;

3) quality enabling legislation, which would prevent an excess of bylaws and decrees.

Each will require – and will present an opportunity for – significantly enhanced citizen engagement and women’s participation: as the national development strategy 2017-2021 recognizes, a precondition for the effective application of both remedies identified is significant improvement in the quality of the representation function at all levels.

Expected Results:

  • Legal and judicial reforms further ensure strong protection of rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of citizens;
  • Strengthened representation, legislation and oversight functions of the Parliament;
  • Modernized parliamentary systems to support business continuity, public engagement and oversight.
