Project Summary:

‘Rule of Law Partnership in Uzbekistan’ is a joint project of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The overall goal of the Project is to strengthen public access to and trust in Uzbekistan’s judicial system.

The project works primarily with the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan, based on the priorities set forth in the country’s Action Strategy 2017-2021 related to access to justice and achievement of greater alignment with internationally recognized standards of judicial independence, integrity, accountability, rule of law and transparency.

Expected Results:

Improving citizen knowledge of court system due the wider public outreach;

Ensuring easy access to justice and remedies for citizens and businesses, including vulnerable groups;

Providing assistance in development of better-trained judges, lawyers and court personnel, able to apply new knowledge and skills;

Improving the Civil Procedure Code, Criminal Procedure Code, and Economic Procedure Code along with newly development Administrative Court Procedure Code, leading to a higher implementation of the rule of law in Uzbekistan and a higher protection of rights for its citizens and businesses;

Ensuring streamlined civil, criminal and economic court procedures to optimize costs and operations;

Introduction of e-justice and ICT tools in pilot courts;

Contribution to the improved score of Uzbekistan in international rankings related to justice sector.
