Small Businesses in Central Asia Explore New Tools for Export Development

The main goal is to promote exports and access new markets

The three-day workshop on "Global Export Strategy" built on innovative and simulation based methodology was organized for more than 30 participants from Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) during 20-22 September in Almaty, Kazakhstan by UNDP’s "Aid for Trade in Central Asia" Regional Project in cooperation with the "Hilfswerk International" organization implementing EU funded "Central Asia - Invest V" Program.

 “Global Export Strategy” Business simulation is a modern ‘business processes simulation tool’ encompassing an enterprises’ all business processes ranging from financing procurement of raw materials and start of production to identification of potential export markets and developing an export strategy. During the simulation-based exercises, each workshop participant was assigned a specific business role, and the success of the company in accessing foreign markets depended on the effective interaction of the entire chain of ‘players’ managing specific processes in the company.

‘Nowadays, utilizing innovative methods and tools in developing an enterprise’s export strategy is one of the main factors to ensure a steady increase of export potential of relevant industries. Undoubtedly, the knowledge and skills acquired during the workshop will be further used in export development activities of export support institutions of Uzbekistan’ highlighted Mr. Murodjon Rakhimov, Head of Department of Uzbekistan Export Promotion Agency.

During the training, under the guidance of the international expert in the field of marketing and management - Ms. Margit Winter, representatives of ministries and state agencies, associations and exporting companies from four Central Asian countries were able to develop an export strategy of the company for the next three years and a simulation was carried out in order to assess effectiveness the company's competitiveness when entering the markets of countries of European Union, North America and the Middle East.

As a result of the three-day training, participants learnt the principles of strategic management and new methods of export marketing, increased knowledge in the field of financing of production and export processes at the enterprises.
