In the framework of the visit to the Bukhara region, Doina Munteanu, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Uzbekistan, met with deputy governor  of the Bukhara region for construction Mr. Narzullo Khamdamov.

The purpose of the visit was to conduct monitoring of the activities of the joint project of UNDP/GEF and the Ministry of Construction of the Republic of Uzbekistan “Market Transformation for Sustainable Rural Housing in Uzbekistan”, as well as to hold site visits to pilot project areas of newly constructed energy-efficient and low-carbon houses in Dekhoji massif of the Bukhara region.

The UNDP project objective is to provide Uzbekistan’s rural population with improved, affordable and environmentally friendly living conditions. The project seeks to transform the rapidly growing rural housing sector in Uzbekistan towards a more sustainable and low-carbon development pathway.

During the meeting, Ms. Munteanu said:

“All participants of the State rural housing programme in the Bukhara region, including Qishloq Qurilish Loyiha, Qishloq Qurilish Bank, Qishloq Qurilish Invest, as well as the contractors, have performed at a high professional level at all stages of introduction and implementation of energy-efficient and low-carbon solutions within the framework of the Project.

The project has provided funding for the low-carbon component of one-storey single family houses during 2019. Starting from 2020, it is planned to pilot similar financing for multi-storey apartment buildings. Based on the success of implementation of the Project in the Bukhara region during the current year and taking into account the level of professionalism of construction companies, we initially plan to test the first multi-storey apartment building in the Bukhara region in 2020. On the grounds and success of this initiative, the Project will then commence financing low-carbon component on multi-storey apartment buildings throughout the country, - continued the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Uzbekistan, and in conclusion added:

During 2020, the Project plans to organize dedicated field trainings on the construction sites in the Bukhara region for the representatives of construction companies from all over the country and related contractors, which participate in the State rural housing programme”.
