Workshop “Towards Decent Work through the Vortex of the Pandemic: New challenges and opportunities for employment services”

On August 16-17, 2021 under the joint project of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations and UNDP “Promoting of Youth Employment in Uzbekistan” a two-day workshop for 70 employees of the Ministry and Regional Employment Offices was organized on the topic «Towards decent work through the vortex of pandemics: new challenges and opportunities for employment services».

The main purpose of the seminar was to increase the capacity of representatives of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (14 administrative units, including Tashkent сity and Tashkent region) to provide services in such areas as employment promotion, vocational training, labour inspection, pre-departure training and reintegration of migrants, etc. for both employers and applicants in the pilot regions.

As noted by the Minister’s Adviser, the Director of the Labour Project Management Centre E.Gorbunova:

“The seminar provides a good platform for dialogue and teamwork between the Ministry and the regional units, as well as an opportunity to enhance the practical skills and capacities as well as the effectiveness of their work in the provision of services to the population. By involving relevant representatives from the regional branches of the MHLW, it is planned to transfer necessary knowledge and skills to specialists of remote rural areas of Uzbekistan”.

The seminar also included a briefing with the First Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Erkin Mukhitdinov on the topic: «Employment strategy 2030» to ensure that Ministry staff are aware of the country’s long-term employment strategic priorities.

In addition, representatives of the Ministry made presentations on the MELR’s areas of expertise, covering issues related to labour inspection, subsidies and grants to entrepreneurs, vocational training for the unemployed, with support from migrant workers abroad.

National consultants Boboyor Turaev, who shared the secrets of building a strong team, and Otabek Eshmatov, who spoke about public communication, also participated at the seminar.

The joint project «Promoting of youth employment in Uzbekistan» is implemented by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations and UNDP with financial support of the Government of the Russian Federation.
