On November 13, 2020, UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Ms. Matilda Dimovska held an official digital meeting with Mr. Shavkatjon Abdurazzakov, Governor of the Namangan Region, to further strengthen cooperation for planned and on-going initiatives.

UNDP has been a long-term trusted partner, supporting the development of the Namangan Region since 1993. Currently, UNDP is implementing six projects in the region, funded with $2 million from donors including the EU and the governments of Russia and Sweden.

These projects are working in areas including supporting local farmers to prepare for climate change impacts, building local self-government, and implementing aid for trade initiatives. An additional five new promising projects are under consideration.

At the meeting, the UNDP office shared its vision with the Governor for consolidating and expanding its assistance in the Namangan region, presented prospective projects in the areas of women's employment, youth capacity building, agriculture, solar energy use, and improving the environmental situation in the Chust and Chorkesar districts.

In addition to these projects, Governor Shavkatjon Abdurazzakov offered enhanced cooperation in the fields of architectural training, the development of small industrial zones, lighting new neighbourhoods and streets with alternative energy, and preparing a "Youth Book". He invited the UNDP team to visit Namangan once again to continue the dialogue.

In 2021 and beyond, UNDP looks forward to further expanding its collaboration with the regional administration of Namangan, for the continual benefit of all the region’s communities and citizens.
