Newsletter 2/2021: News on uranium legacy remediation activities in Uzbekistan

The “Stakeholder Engagement for Uranium Legacy Remediation in Central Asia. Phase II” project has issued the second edition of the newsletter highlighting main activities of the project for the period of August-December 2021.

What has been done within this period?

·       The project co-financed/financed business projects in Yangiabad and Charkesar to create jobs and build prosperity at the uranium legacy territories.

·       More than 100 women living in the territories of the uranium heritage and in nearby cities gained new knowledge on the development of women's entrepreneurship and learnt about new opportunities to contribute to green economy.

EU funded “Stakeholder engagement in Uranium legacy remediation in Central Asia. Phase II” project is implemented by UNDP Uzbekistan jointly with OSCE and the Ministry of Emergency Situation of Uzbekistan. The project aims to increase awareness of local decision-makers and community members about the uranium waste risks and to reduce these risks through implementation of gender sensitive economic development initiatives.
