I’d like to convey my greetings on behalf of the UN system to all of you. I am grateful to the Govt for the organization of this high level meeting on a very important subject for all of us – aid coordination. I think it is very timely to end the year with an event about cooperation, exchange perspectives on aid coordination, and discuss what we can be further improved in 2015.

Violence against women and girls appears all too often in headlines across the world. But along with the cases that make the news are many thousands of other incidents occurring every day, on every continent, and in every country. According to the World Health Organization, gender-based violence kills as many women between the ages of 15 and 44 as does cancer. Its toll on women's health surpasses that of traffic accidents and malaria combined.

We have gathered on the occasion of an Inception Workshop, which marks the official launch of our newest climate change adaptation project, which will be implemented jointly with our long-time partner, Uzhydromet. Some three years, in close consultation with our national partners we have started developing this project proposal – we are launching the project today, which also happens to be the largest climate change adaptation initiative to date in Uzbekistan.
