To improve the quality of interaction between the authorities and the media of Karakalpakstan, a one-day training "Important factors of efficient interaction with the local media" was held on April 17, 2019. The meeting, attended by 36 representatives of local authorities and the media representatives, was organized within the framework of the UN Joint Programme "Building the resilience of communities affected by the Aral Sea disaster through the Multi-Partner Human Security Fund for the Aral Sea'" and the UNDP Project "Support to the Enhancement of Law-making, Rule-making and Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA)/Phase 2" with the support of the Senate Commission to promote the revitalization of the representative bodies of local authorities and the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

Based on the priorities of the Government of Uzbekistan to improve the functional capacities and performance of local Kengashes of people's deputies at the regional and district levels, the Joint Programme pilots the project "Promotion of the local development through enhancing inclusive and responsive government institutions in the Aral Sea region". Constant work with the media representatives, as an important link in the process of interaction between state authorities and public institutions, is one of the priorities in this area. They can identify the interests of citizens, bring their concerns to the authorities, accumulate and form public opinion, raise awareness of the government's actions and intentions.

During the training, the presentation of modern methods and approaches to work with journalists was held for the participants from all local Kengashes of people's deputies and local authorities at the district, city and province levels of the Republic Karakalpakstan, whose activity is connected with the active dialogue with representatives of the local media. The training consisted of 8 sessions covering theoretical aspects with a description of the key tools of presenting information, preparing for interviews or public speeches, creating and maintaining pages in social networks. During the practical exercises in the format of dramatization, the participants were faced with the task to independently prepare information materials, hold a press conference, video conference, briefing, round table, presentation and press tour.

The practical part of our training demonstrated a range of problems we may face during the work of the information services. I think now we got prepared even for the most unexpected situations that may happen during a press conference or briefing. It was very useful for everyone, moreover, the knowledge gained will help to improve media relations, - said training participant Zahida Kalzhanova from Muynak district hokimiyat.

It should be noted that the program of the training was developed on the basis of the results of surveys and examination of the communication process of local Kengashes and authorities with the media representatives in a number of regions of the country. One-day interactive training is designed to help eliminate deficiencies in the work with journalists and improve the efficiency of interaction with the local media.
