Jizzakh city develops Socio-economic Development Strategy

The draft of Jizzakh city Development Strategy has been developed within the framework of UNDP Project "Local Governance Support Programme / Phase-2" (LGSP-2) in cooperation with the Jizzakh city khokimiyat and experts from the Ministry of Economy. The document is comprised of a set of priorities, methods and objectives of sustainable economic and social development of Jizzakh city for 2016-2024.

The Strategy is carried out in line with the introduced state programmes for regional development and aimed at sustainable economic growth of the city by defining the real needs for development and rational usage of available resources. All activities mentioned The Strategy will be implemented by Jizzakh city khokimiyat and representatives of the city authorities, private sector and civil society will be directly involved.

The strategy consists of several interrelated parts:

part 1. Analysis of current socio-economic situation in the city of Jizzakh;

part 2. SWOT analysis for development of the city;

part 3. The concept of the Strategy of Jizzakh city 2016-2024;

part 4. Proposed design, tentative action plan and implementation oversight of the Strategy.

The following core areas for effective implementation of the Jizzakh city Development Strategy have been identified:

• improving business environment, development of private enterprise and industrial capacity building;

• enhancing transparency and accountability of local authorities of the city;

• strengthening the role and capacity of local authorities for effective interaction among stakeholders;

• improving access to infrastructure and public services of the most vulnerable groups: elderly people, the disabled and low-income families;

• active promotion of SIZ "Jizzakh" and full implementation of the commitments for development of infrastructure.

The draft Strategy has been placed on the Single portal of interactive government services (EPIGU) for public discussion (https://my.gov.uz/uz/getPublicService/332?item_id=263&action=view). The document will be finalized taking into account comments and suggestions received.

Ensuring sustainable development of territories is of key importance for the UNDP LGSP-2 project. Within the project, this component envisages development of contemporary regional development strategies for the cities of Jizzakh and Namangan, as well as Kibray district of Tashkent region based on the best international practices. In addition, a unified methodology for planning effective development of the regions of Uzbekistan is developed in cooperation with the Institute of Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research.

"Local Governance Support Programme / Phase-2" is the joint project of the United Nations Development Programme in Uzbekistan and the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, working in pilot regions - Jizzakh, Namangan and Tashkent regions. The project aims to enhance legal, technical and human capacities in local governance, assist the Government in modernization of public administration and public service, and regional development.
