  • The biggest biogas facility became operational in Andijan region Nov 28, 2016

    Uzbekistan has substantial renewable energy potential, which is still largely untapped. According to the preliminary estimates, total potential of biogas in Uzbekistan is estimated to exceed 8.9 billion cubic meters annually. As the calorific value, this corresponds to 6.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas, accounting for more than 10% of annual demand for energy in Uzbekistan.

    The United Nations System in Uzbekistan supports the global call for the elimination of all forms of violence against women. Every year, the campaign entitled “16 Days of Activism against gender based violence” is marked globally. It starts on the International Day against Violence against Women (25 November) and ends on the International Human Rights Day (10 December), symbolically linking these occasions together to send the message that violence against women is an act of violation against human rights.

  • IT for efficient agriculture Nov 21, 2016

    Within the framework of the UNDP and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry ‘Business Forum of Uzbekistan (Phase III)' project, weather stations will be installed in a number of rural areas of the country. The aim of this initiative is to increase the efficiency of agriculture through the introduction of IT, automation of farming processes, optimization of planning and management processes in the sector.

    Uzbekistan is state-party to more than 70 international human rights instruments, including 6 (ICERD, ICCPR, ICESCR, CEDAW, CAT, CRC) out of the 9 core UN human rights conventions as well as 4 optional protocols. After ratification of these conventions, Uzbekistan had taken a number of legislative and institutional measures taking into account the recommendations of the UN Treaty Bodies on human rights and Universal Periodic Review (UPR). In particular, the Parliament of Uzbekistan has adopted many legislative acts regulating fundamental human rights and freedoms.
