    Just recently, on 2 March, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s joining the United Nations as a full member, and I think in general it has been very good relationships. I would like to split it perhaps into three big subject areas that the UN is dealing with. Namely, peace and stability, human rights and development.

    This has been the first ever visit to Uzbekistan by any of the six UN High Commissioners for Human Rights, since the Office of the High Commissioner was established in 1993, just two years after Uzbekistan became independent, and one year after it became a member of the United Nations.

  • UNDP Energy Efficiency of Rural Housing in Uzbekistan Project to Contribute to the Implementation of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change May 3, 2017

    The United Nations Development Programme in Uzbekistan commends Uzbekistan’s recent signing of the Paris Agreement on climate change. The Paris Agreement is the first-ever universal, legally binding global climate deal, which was adopted at the 21st Conference of Parties (COP 21) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Paris on 12 December 2015 and came into force in 2016. Uzbekistan, as a Party to UNFCCC, signed the Paris Agreement on 19 April 2017.

    On May 2, 2017, a joint project of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and UNDP 'Business Forum of Uzbekistan (Phase III)' held a round table on further improving the business environment and raising Uzbekistan’s ranking in the World Bank's ‘Doing Business’ report.

  • Caring about Earth – Universal Contribution to the Sustainable Future Apr 28, 2017

    These days a series of events dedicated to the International Earth Day were held in Tashkent and the regions. The events were held everywhere with involvement of the academia, ministries, agencies, social institutions, businesses, and most importantly, those, for whom caring about the environment is equivalent to the care about own home, about the bright and clear future. Children from the Mehribonlik home # 30 decided to make their contribution to the common initiative. The idea of hashar (community work) involving experts and environmentalists was supported by the organizations such as UNDP, State Committee for Environmental Protection.

  • E-SUD to be launched in Fergana valley Apr 25, 2017

    About 130 court chairpersons, judges, heads of offices of inter-district civil courts, public utilities and state tax inspection employees, as well as lawyers of Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana regions participated in specialized trainings to further increase the use of the National information case management system E-SUD. The events were conducted within the joint project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

    The experts and national partners of the of joint UNDP project Reducing Pressure on Natural Resources from Competing Land Use on Non-irrigated Dry Mountainous, Semi-desert, and Desert Landscapes of Uzbekistan project of the United Nations Development Programme, Global Environmental Facility, and the State Committee on Land Resources, Geodesy, Cartography, and State Cadastre (Yergeodezcadastre) of Uzbekistan reviewed the issues related to legal, economic, and environmental aspects of rational use of land resources and their conservation.

  • National Transparency Index Reveals Most Open Government Institutions in Uzbekistan Apr 19, 2017

    National Transparency Index of Uzbekistan published ranking of 47 government agencies on how open and transparent their activities are from the viewpoint of citizens as required by the Law on Transparency. The joint project of UNDP and Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications on electronic government promotion supported the Public Transparency Council of Uzbekistan in developing the methodology to calculate the index and guidelines on transparency for government agencies.

  • Functional review to improve the civil courts in Uzbekistan Apr 18, 2017

    The Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted an international Round Table entitled ‘Further enhancement of activities of civil courts - priority area of judicial and legal reforms’, organized in the framework of the joint project of the Supreme Court, USAID and UNDP ‘Rule of Law partnership in Uzbekistan’.
