Uzbekistan’s climatic and geographic extremes, its unique ecosystems and environments, and its significant reliance on agriculture as a source of income and population livelihoods, have made environmental sustainability and clean energy development national priorities. UNDP’s Environment and Energy Unit has recognised the need to balance environmental protection and economic growth in Uzbekistan. The unit’s major objective is to ensure that Uzbekistan’s land can be effectively protected, managed and utilised on local, regional and national levels, in a way that benefits both environments and their neighboring communities.
