Brochure ‘Minors right to support payments’

Uzbekistan announced 2016 as the Year of Healthy Mother and Child and approved the State program "Year of healthy mother and child". This contributes to the support of the younger generation, strengthens focus on mothers, and creates great opportunities for juridical protection of motherhood and childhood.

Protection of family, motherhood and childhood is a state policy priority and a key principal of development of our society. According to the Articles 63 and 64 of the Constitution, "The family is the primary unit of the society and shall have the right to protection of the society and state” and “Parents shall be obliged to support and care for their children until the latter are of age".

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the support of US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has published the brochure "Minors right to support payments”. This was realized within the framework of the joint project "Rule of law partnership in Uzbekistan" in order to ensure free public access to issues of minor children’s rights to receive alimony from their parents. Judges of the Supreme Court and the project experts have prepared this brochure.

This brochure provides a thorough introduction to the issues of alimony recovery proceeding by initiation of legal action; determination of child support payments amount; as well as how to apply to a court for the issuance of a court order or writ; what is action proceedings; what types of income are subject to maintenance deduction; what actions to take in case of evasion of payment of alimony.
